The Best Easy Homemade Guacamole
Homemade Guacamole is so easy to make with creamy avocados, onions, cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt. This is the best dip for tortilla chips, topped on tacos, or spread on sandwiches for any meal and get-together!
Definitely my must have appetizer that everyone loves and eats time and time again!
Tortilla chips have met the perfect match with guacamole. The combination of chunky tomatoes and onions with creamy avocadoes makes the most delicious and irresistible dip. But the best part of guacamole is how good it tastes on everything! Not only can you dip it with chips, but pretzels, crackers, and vegetables taste great too. Plus it’s fantastic when spread on top of sandwiches and burgers or even mixed with Slow Cooker Shredded Chicken to make a zesty chicken salad. The possibilities of guacamole are endless!
HOW TO MAKE IT
It’s quick and easy to make, all you have to do is:
CUT– avocado lengthwise and separate it in half.
REMOVE PIT– take a sharp chef’s knife and tap the avocado with the sharp side of the knife. Once the knife is in the pit, gently twist the knife and remove it. The pit will come right out with the knife. Carefully remove the pit from the knife with a towel. If you don’t have a knife, just scoop it out with a spoon.
MASH– avocado in a bowl using a fork or potato masher. Don’t mash too much because you still want it to be slightly chunky.
ADD– onion, tomato, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and jalapeños if you want some heat.
STIR– it all together until it is part chunky, part creamy, and fully delicious. ENJOY!
VARIATIONS OF GUACAMOLE
There are several different ways to switch up guacamole.
- If you don’t have much time, just combine avocados with salsa for a quick and easy variation.
- Add extra jalapeños to make it spicy.
- Switch lime juice for lemon juice for a slightly different flavor.
HOW TO SERVE GUACAMOLE
Tortilla chips dipped in guacamole is the best flavor combination! But so many other foods can be dipped in guacamole such as pretzels, crackers, carrots, or sliced peppers. Guacamole is also fantastic when topped on a juicy burger!
A FEW TIPS:
SELECTING AVOCADOS:
- Look for avocados that appear dark and are soft to the touch. There should be some give to them when you press your finger firmly on the outside.
- The stem should be attached. If it has fallen off, sometimes that is a good indication that the avocado is too ripe.
- If the avocado is too firm, place it in a paper bag at room temperature for a day or two to help ripen.
- Store in the refrigerator if the avocado is ripe but you are not ready to use it yet.
STORING:
- Place guacamole in an air-tight container and smooth out the top surface. Pour a 1/2-inch deep layer of water over the surface. Cover with plastic wrap and try to gently remove any air bubbles. Store in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, pour off the water and stir just before serving.

Thanks for sharing this. Great and easy recipe to follow! I plan to make this over the weekend yum! We are all guac obsessed in my house 😁
YUM!! Guac makes everything better😍 thanks for this!
Guacamole lover right here! It’s the best! I don’t use cilantro or jalapeños in mine, but I do use tomatoes, onions, and lime juice. I like to leave one half of an avocado for the end, and I cut it in chunks and add it to the finished mix to keep it chunky. I love adding chili powder and cumin for an extra kick!!!! Loved your pictures. 🙂
The only drawback to guacamole is that it doesn’t store well. But, it is delicious.
Thanks for this recipe! I love guacamole 🥑 so pinning this for later!
Yum! Love the addition of the onions. This is making me crave chips and guac!
This looks amazing! I’m obsessed with guacamole, and I can’t wait to try this recipe! I did not know to add the 1/2 in of water before adding the plastic wrap to store. Thanks for the tip! Pinned! 🙂
