Easy Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Oats are one of my favorite ingredients to make different meals because it tastes so good with different flavors. It pairs well with bananas and chocolate like in my Banana Oatmeal Cookies or toasted in my Coconut Almond Granola. But there’s nothing quite like the classic flavors of cinnamon and apple.

This Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal is one of my absolute favorite make-ahead breakfasts or even breakfast-for-dinner recipes. It combines the sweetness of crisp apples with the delicious spice of cinnamon that fills the house with the most amazing aroma! Plus, it is so simple to throw it all together in the Crock Pot and enjoy it whenever you are ready. My family eats this so often and I hope you and yours will do the same.

Ingredients

  • Apples– The best part of this recipe is that any apples will taste great. I often go for Fuji or Honeycrisp because they are easy to find in the store. Try a Granny Smith for a more tart flavor or Pink Lady for a very sweet flavor.
  • Old-Fashioned or Steel-Cut Oats– If you are looking for an overnight recipe, try using the steel-cut oats since they take longer to cook. Use old-fashioned oats if you want to cut down on the cooking time. Do not use instant oats since they cook too quickly.
  • Milk– I enjoy the creaminess of regular 2% or whole cow’s milk but any milk could be substituted or even water.
  • Brown Sugar– Just a little sugar makes this oatmeal sweet and delicious. Maple syrup or honey is a perfect substitute.
  • Ground Cinnamon– Use as much cinnamon as you desire. It really pairs well with the apples.
  • Vanilla or Maple Extract– Both of these give a nice aroma to the oatmeal.
  • Salt

How To Make Crockpot Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

  1. Add the ingredients: Add all the ingredients to the slow cooker and stir together. That’s it!
  2. Serve: Once the liquid has been absorbed and the apples are tender, the oatmeal is ready to eat. Tastes delicious when topped off with a little maple syrup, butter, or extra milk to make it even creamier.

Variation Ideas

Slow Cooker Oatmeal is so versatile and can be made in a variety of different flavors. A few add-ins I’ve tried:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries
  • Peaches
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice

Storage Options

To store: Allow the oatmeal to completely cool and then store in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.

Helpful Tips

* The liquid affects the creaminess: Using whole or 2% milk will make the oatmeal creamier than skim or water.

* Generously spray the Crock Pot: Spray the Crock Pot with cooking spray or grease with butter and be extra generous to prevent the oatmeal from sticking to the sides.

* No need to peel the apple: The apple will cook down to become extra tender so there is no need to peel it before adding it to the slow cooker.
