If you’re looking for an easy meal that’s full of flavor, this Slow Cooker Shredded Apple BBQ Chicken is the one to try! Sweet apple juice and smoky BBQ sauce come together to make tender, juicy chicken that’s perfect for sandwiches, rice bowls, or just on its own. I love slow cooker recipes like this because they practically make themselves- similar to my Crock Pot Taco Hash Brown Casserole or Crock Pot Mississippi Chicken. This recipe is one of those comfort food dinners that the whole family will enjoy.
Why You Will Love This Recipe
Super easy meal! Just toss the ingredients in the slow cooker and let it do the work.
Sweet and smoky flavor! Apple juice and BBQ sauce create a delicious balance of flavors.
Family-friendly! Perfect for weeknights, game day sandwiches, or meal prep.

Ingredients
- Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts– Lean and tender, but you can also use chicken thighs for extra juiciness.
- BBQ Sauce– Use your favorite brand. A smoky or honey BBQ sauce pairs really well with apples.
- Apple Juice– Adds natural sweetness and keeps the chicken moist. I have used apple cider with similar results.
- Apple Cider Vinegar– Gives a tangy kick and balances the sweetness.
- Brown Sugar– Deepens the caramelized flavor and complements the BBQ sauce.
*See the recipe card at the bottom of the page for detailed instructions and a list of ingredients.
How to Make Apple BBQ Chicken
- Place chicken breasts in the bottom of a Crock Pot.
- Add BBQ sauce, apple juice, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar.
- Cover and cook on Low 6–7 hours or High 3–4 hours until chicken is tender.
- Shred chicken and stir it back into the sauce.

Recipe Variations
- Spicy kick– Add red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
- Smokier flavor– Use a mesquite or hickory BBQ sauce.
- Fruit swap– Try pear juice or pineapple juice instead of apple for a fun twist.
Storage Options
Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container up to 4 days.
Freeze for up to 3 months in freezer-safe bags.
Reheat on the stovetop or microwave with a splash of extra BBQ sauce to keep it moist.

Helpful Tips
* Use a meat thermometer– chicken is done when it reaches 165°F.
