Slow Cooker Applesauce

How to make it

This Slow Cooker Applesauce is very simple to make! You only need to peel and cook!

PEELapples

ADDapples, sugar, cinnamon and water to slow cooker.

COOK– allow to cook until very tender.

BLEND– if you let it cook long enough, you can just use a spoon to blend it all together. If it’s a little too chunky, use a hand mixer or immersion blender to get it to your desired consistency.

EAT– put it in a bowl and enjoy!

Ingredients

APPLES: the type of apples is totally up to you! If you’re wanting tart applesauce, try Granny Smith apples. If you’re wanting very sweet applesauce, try using Pink Lady. Or if you want it not too sweet not too tart, I like Gala or Fuji.

GRANULATED SUGAR: add more or less sugar to taste. Sometimes I’m in the mood for sweet applesauce and sometimes I add less when I’m sharing with my kids. The sweetness is up to you.

GROUND CINNAMON: I think this is the perfect amount of cinnamon but again feel free to add more or less to your desire.

WATER

Variation options

SUGAR: I’ve only used white granulated sugar but I think brown sugar could be used as a substitute.

ELIMINATE CINNAMON– If you want plain applesauce, just eliminate cinnamon completely.

CHUNKY OR SMOOTH– if you’re looking for chunkier applesauce, reduce cook time until apples are more firm. They still should be able to blend together but just lightly so there are more apple chunks throughout.

Budget/time-saving ideas

I am always looking for ideas to save money or time. Here are a couple of ways this could help you if this recipe is out of budget or you are on a time crunch:

  • Although I have not done it, I think this could be made on the stove. I imagine it would only take around 30 minutes to cook down the apples.
  • use whatever apples are available or on sale
  • meal prep- lasts up to 7 days in the refrigerator or freezes up to 6-9 months

Healthy alternative

Reduce sugar by half or completely to make it a little more healthy. You could also use sugar substitutes as well.
