Ingredients

  • Imitation crab meat– I like to use the flake imitation crab meat but you can also use real lump crab for a more authentic flavor.
  • Mayonnaise– The creamy base that binds everything together. For a lighter version, swap in Greek yogurt.
  • Cajun seasoning– Use your favorite store-bought blend or make your own. For this recipe, I used Old Bay. Adjust the amount to control the heat.
  • Celery– Adds crunch and freshness.
  • Red or green bell pepper– Adds a little extra bold flavor.
  • Green onion– I found through testing that a little green onion brings out the savory flavors without being too overpowering. You could swap for a regular onion if you want a stronger onion flavor.
  • Lemon juice– Brightens everything up and balances the richness of the mayo.
  • Garlic powder– For a subtle savory boost.
  • Salt and pepper– Taste and season as needed.

How to Make Crab Salad

  1. Chop the crab– Shred or dice into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Make the dressing– In a bowl, mix together all the ingredients until fully coated.
  3. Chill– Let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Serve– Top with extra green onion and enjoy!

Storage Options

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir before serving as the dressing may separate slightly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you freeze crab salad?

It’s not recommended to freeze crab salad because the mayo-based dressing and vegetables will lose their texture after thawing.

Is imitation crab meat already cooked?

Yes, imitation crab is fully cooked and ready to eat right from the package.
