Creamy Apple Grape Salad

Apples are such versatile fruits that pair so well with almost any dish. Some of my favorite apple combinations are with pears in this Apple Pear Crisp, with pumpkins in these Apple Pumpkin Muffins, and of course with cranberries in the Cinnamon Roll Cranberry Apple Pie.

This Cranberry Apple Grape Salad has the best combination of flavors. It has a bit of tartness from the cherries, spice from the cinnamon, saltiness from the walnuts, and sweetness from the apples and maple yogurt dressing. All these delicious flavors come together so quickly since this salad just takes a few minutes to throw together. It is such a delicious side dish that not only pairs well with the fall holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas but also is tasty to enjoy for any weeknight meal.

Ingredients

  • Apples– Any type of apple can be used for this recipe. I mixed sweet and tart with Gala and Granny Smith for a little variety.
  • Grapes– You can also use both green and/or red seedless grapes.
  • Dried Cranberries– I love how cranberries add a bit of tartness to the salad. You could substitute with raisins if you wanted it extra sweet.
  • Walnuts– Nuts add a little crunch and cut some of the sweetness. Pecans or almonds would be good in this as well or you can omit nuts altogether if you prefer.
  • Vanilla Greek Yogurt– Regular or Greek yogurt works best to give it a thick and creamy texture. Vanilla adds a little more sweet aroma and flavor.
  • Maple Syrup– This adds such a deep sweetness but honey would be equally as delicious.
  • Ground Cinnamon– I love how this adds some warm flavors to the salad.
  • Lemon Juice– Just a touch of lemon juice helps keep the apples from turning brown.

How To Make Grape Apple Salad

  1. Prep the fruit: Chop the apples and slice the grapes in half. Add them to a large bowl with the cranberries and the walnuts.
  2. Make the dressing– Stir the dressing by mixing yogurt, maple syrup, cinnamon and lemon juice. Pour it over the fruit and give it a good toss. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Enjoy!

Variations

There are a few different ways to switch up this salad. A few ideas are:

  • Nuts: Remove the nuts or try different ones like almonds or pecans.
  • Apples: Use sweet, tart, or a combination for different flavors.
  • Honey: Try swapping the maple syrup for honey.
  • Fruit: Add a variety of fruits like bananas or oranges.

Storage Options

To store: Store covered in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Helpful Tips

Lemon juice is helpful to keep the apples from turning brown. Lime juice would work as well.

This salad is best served the day it is made.

Use seedless grapes instead of seeded. Those pesky seeds are hard to take out!
